isitar the Mini Europe of Brussels, also known as the Miniature Europe, is another of the classics of the Belgian capital. It is a small theme park (you will not need more than an hour and a half to visit it) where all the countries of the European Union are represented by high quality models made on a scale of 1/25.
It could not be located in a better place this Mini Europe of Brussels, because it is in this city where the European Parliament is also located (by the way, you can visit the neighborhood of the European Parliament through a free guided tour).
The Brussels Mini-Europe is located right next to another of Belgium’s must-see places: the Atomium. In this way, in the same morning you can visit the Atomium and the Mini Europe. We have done so on the three occasions we have visited Brussels.
The Mini Europe Park or Miniature Europe was created in 1989. At that time, only 12 countries were part of the European Economic Community, which was then the name given to the European Union. Those were, therefore, the countries represented at the Mini Europe in Brussels during its inauguration. The park, however, has grown at the rate that the European Union has done, so that with the incorporation of Croatia in 2013 are now 28 states that are part of this supranational club and, therefore, are represented in this Miniature Europe of Brussels. This gives rise to a total of 350 sites and monuments, including some that are located outside the European continent, such as the launch base of the Ariane rocket, which is located in Korou, French Guiana.
HOW IS THE VISIT TO THE MINI-EUROPA OF BRUSSELS
To visit the Mini Europe in Brussels you must buy the ticket, which in 2019 has a price of 15.80€ for adults and 11.80€ for children. You can buy them in advance on this website and save the queues.
Upon entering you will be given a 64-page booklet, explaining the Mini Europe, which collects the most important data of all the countries represented in this Europe in Miniature, in addition to briefly presenting some of the monuments that we will see during the tour. In addition, this booklet details aspects of the European Union related to the functioning of this body, its budgets or the influence that the EU has on the citizen.
The Mini Europa in Brussels is a unidirectional route, so you go through a kind of path where are located, to the right and left, the various models of some of the most representative monuments of each country, which, by the way, usually have small animations activated with a button.
Visit the Mini Europe in Brussels
Of course, I am not going to detail all the monuments that are represented in this Mini Europe of Brussels, but I would dare to say that almost all the places that form the collective imaginary of the old continent are present and that they are, something like that, the symbols of the country. For example, Buckingham Palace with London’s Big Ben, the Sacred Heart, the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe of Paris, the Acropolis of Athens, the Tower of Belem in Porto or the Tower of Pisa in this Italian city. It really makes garcia go see in models those places that we have had the opportunity to visit live.
For its part, Spain is represented in the Mini Europe of Belgium with several monuments such as the Palace of Escorial, the Monument to Columbus in Barcelona or the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.
The truth is that the tour of this Brussels Miniature Europe is very pleasant and tends to please both children and adults. Proof of this is that we have visited them on the 3 occasions we have travelled to Brussels. Thus, taking advantage of the morning to get to know this small theme park after visiting the Brussels Atomium can be a very good idea.
